The more you know, the more you see!

Coral reefs, the jungle of the ocean…here we swim through clouds of colorful fishes surrounding and inhabiting bizarre labyrinths of coral domes, buttresses, caves and tunnels.

Maybe the biggest contrast in this subtropic area of the Red Sea is the arid rocky Sinai desert above water versus the breathtaking richness of live beneath the sea surface. No matter if diving, snorkeling or swimming, when sticking your head under water it turns out to be even more exciting if you know ‘who is who’, why does an animal behave in its particular way or where can you find the creature you're looking for.

For all the courses there is a maximum of 4 participants.

See you in the water soon!

Marine biology courses (for divers & snorkellers)
Judith Hannak
Basic Reef Knowledge (1 day, 2 dives)

This course is designed to be an introduction to marine biology on tropical coral reefs for everyone who is interested in the underwater world. The course shall help the participant to understand how coral reefs function, what makes them grow and what harms them. Furthermore the diver will be able to identify typical coral reef inhabitants whilst exploring the reef.

Who eats who? (1 day, 2 dives)

This course focusses on the energy flow and the complex food web of coral reefs. The course shall help the participant to understand how the coral reef ecosystem functions and what happens when it is out of balance. Some of the fish families will be familiar but in this course they will be looked at rather from the ecological perspective than pure identification. This course builds up on the Basic Reef Knowledge course.

Come to where the sunshine is!

Marine Biology
Living together (1 day, 2 dives)

This course gives a deeper insight into different symbiotic relationships between coral reef species. The course shall help the participant to understand the complex interactions on different levels and how to recognize typical examples of symbiosis on the reef.

Observe the UW-community with different eyes!

Marine Biology
From dawn till dusk (1 day, 3 dives)

This course is designed to give a deeper insight to coral reef biology regarding daily activity patterns of reef organisms. The course shall help the participant to understand and observe how different animals can use the same food resources and hunting grounds, only in another time frame. Thus even the very same dive spot appears very different and exchanges its role players during the cycle of a day. This course builds up on the Basic Reef Knowledge course.

Diving doesn't get much better than this!

Private guiding (1-5 days, 2-13 dives)

Besides courses about the coral reef you can also book our marine biologist as your private guide; the alternative solution for those people who have a lot of questions about the underwater world but don’t want to spend time in a classroom. That means for you: more answers and explanations related to your particular questions, longer dives (60-75) minutes, more flexibility, extensive (de)briefings, handouts, and a CD with the pictures taken during the dives.
